Elk Grove Boulevard Site of Fatal Crash

A fatal crash occurred in Elk Grove on June 19 when a red sedan struck a tree along Elk Grove Boulevard. The accident is unusual, according to a representative of the Elk Grove Police Department, because there were no witnesses to the accident, no one reported it and no one heard it. The fatal crash was discovered by a passing Elk Grove police officer who was patrolling the area at the time and phoned emergency responders.

Vehicle Passenger Dies in Fatal Crash

The vehicle’s driver was rushed to a hospital for treatment and is expected to live. However, a female passenger in the vehicle, 45-year-old Lashona McIntosh of Sacramento, was found in critical condition and passed away from her injuries. Airbags did deploy in the accident. The roadway was shut down from Wymark Drive to Bruceville Road as police conducted an investigation. If anyone has information about the accident, they are asked to phone Elk Grove police at (916) 714-5115.

Investigating a Wrongful Death

A wrongful death occurs when someone dies due to another’s negligent or criminal actions. Although nothing will replace that loved one or lessen the grief, the sudden loss in a fatal crash can leave the family with financial difficulties. A personal injury lawyer in Elk Grove who is experienced in handling wrongful death claims can help them obtain fair compensation, which can at least remove the financial stress. Those who can file for wrongful death in California include:

  • The surviving spouse, domestic partner, children in the family home and grandchildren of a deceased child who were dependent on the decedent
  • Those who were dependent on the deceased for at least 50 percent of their support such as parents or stepchildren

An experienced personal injury lawyer in Elk Grove can explain exactly what is entailed in filing a wrongful death lawsuit, what areas of economic and noneconomic loss are covered and answer any questions.

Losing a Loved One Unexpectedly

Losing a loved one is never easy, but when it involves an unexpected event the grief and the anger the family feels are compounded. This puts an additional strain on grieving family members. Close friends and other family members can help in the following ways.

  • Be there for the grieving family by visiting or calling on the phone. This lets the family know that you feel their pain. After an unexpected accident in a fatal crash, the family may feel isolated. It is important to let them know that they do have a viable support system.
  • Doing tasks around the home helps immensely. This includes picking up and taking children to school, cleaning and doing the dishes, shopping and retrieving prescriptions at the pharmacy.
  • Offering to drive the grieving family members to appointments can help keep them safe. Many times, bereaved family members may focus on the accident to the detriment of other things. When driving, this could lead to a serious accident.
  • Being with the family members when they need to go to the funeral parlor to make arrangements for the funeral and burial services is important. This is a difficult task, and your presence can be of enormous help.
  • Continuing to be supportive after the end-of-life services are concluded is helpful. This is a difficult and lonely time for most people, so calling or visiting can let the loved ones know that they can lean on you if necessary.
