Causes of Run Off Road Accidents
An Elk Grove injury accident can be caused when a vehicle runs off the road, resulting in serious injuries and fatalities. There are a number of reasons this can happen. Reasons that are caused by driver error include:
- Speeding: Driving too fast for the roadway can cause a driver to lose control and affects the ability to slow down or stop if an emergency situation arises.
- Distracted driving: Motorists who are distracted take their eyes off the road long enough for an injury accident to occur. Some causes of distracted driving are texting or talking on a phone, drinking or eating in the vehicle or changing a radio station.
- Inexperience: Younger people are more likely to be involved in a run off road accident. This may be partly due to inexperience, however, young people do not always realize that risky behavior when driving could lead to an Elk Grove injury accident.
- Drunk driving: Drunk drivers as well as those who have been using drugs contribute to a high percentage of accidents and are known to be involved in a number of single vehicle crashes. Drug use may involve illicit substances but can also involve prescription or over-the-counter medicines that warn about driving afterward.
- Drowsy driving: Not getting sufficient rest the night before, working late hours or medical conditions can contribute to drowsy driving. In many instances, a driver may fall asleep behind the wheel of the car, that may lead to an Elk Grove injury accident.
Other Reasons for a Run-Off-Road Accident
Not all single vehicle accidents are caused by driver error. Outside influences can cause an accident. These include:
- Undivided roads: In some instances, a run-off-road collision can happen on an undivided road when a vehicle coming in the other direction is encroaching on the lane. This might occur when another vehicle passes unsafely or crosses over the yellow line for an unknown reason.
- Aggressive drivers: Aggressive drivers are becoming more of a hazard around the nation. They exhibit behaviors such as tailgating and even forcing other vehicles off the road.
- Road defects: In some instances, road defects such as potholes, cracks, and upheavals in the pavement may cause a vehicle to go off the road.
- Medical crisis: Sometimes, a medical condition may occur while a driver is on the roadway. This may be because of a heart attack, problem with diabetes or others.
