Calvine Road Intersection Accident Injures Pedestrian

A major injury accident occurred in Elk Grove on January 25 after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle. The incident happened around 10:35 a.m. on Calvine Road westbound at its intersection with Elk Grove-Florin Road. A witness called the accident in to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), reporting that the pedestrian was in the roadway.

Driver Returns to Scene of Pedestrian Major Injury Accident

The witness said they didn’t see any vehicle, but it was a light-colored sedan that was headed toward Highway 99. When first responders with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived at the scene, they found the pedestrian unconscious and noted the patient was having problems breathing. The firefighters shut down westbound Calvine Road and transported their patient to Kaiser Medical Center for further evaluation. The vehicle that struck the pedestrian returned to the scene of the accident and was present while CHP officers conducted an investigation into the cause of the crash.

Accidents That Result in Pedestrian Injuries

In many pedestrian injury accidents at intersections and elsewhere, the driver of the motor vehicle is negligent. Among the reasons for pedestrian injury accidents are:

  • In a pedestrian injury accident caused by a speeding driver or one who runs a stop sign or red light, a walker legally crossing the street is at risk of being injured.
  • An intoxicated driver ignores the traffic around him and strikes a pedestrian as a result. Due to an intoxicated motorist’s inability to track with their eyes, judge distances and slowed reflexes, drunk drivers are a significant danger to all road users.
  • After a tailgating driver hits a vehicle stopped at a traffic light, the lead car is pushed into the pedestrian crosswalk, resulting in an injury to a walker.
  • When a motorist is distracted, they are texting, talking on a cell phone, and participating in other activities that take their attention away from the road and surrounding traffic.
  • Other vehicles to the left block a motorist’s view as they make a risky right turn. A driver is so focused on the traffic to the left that he/she does not notice that a pedestrian just stepped off the curb on the right.
  • Without checking for pedestrians legally crossing the street, the motorist turns left at the arrow, striking a walker in the crosswalk.

Getting Legal Advice After a Personal Injury

A pedestrian who is injured in an accident is likely to suffer serious injuries and be hospitalized for a long time, undergo surgeries and experience a long period of recovery. As a result, they lose their ability to work and the wages that normally support them. The lawyer can help you calculate your financial losses, including the compensation for your pain and suffering.

To establish that the driver is at fault, the lawyer investigates the accident. In this way, the person who suffered trauma in the pedestrian accident can seek compensation for their injury. Investigations can be conducted in certain areas such as:

  • Pedestrian injuries are the subject of an accident report review because mistakes can increase the chances of a claim being rejected.
  • The area is examined for surveillance cameras to see if footage of the accident is available.
  • There is an interview with witnesses.
  • Accident reconstruction is performed, which includes photographing the site. By reconstructing the accident as it occurred, it can be determined who was at fault.
