Elk Grove Man Presumed Drown
ELK GROVE MAN PRESUMED DROWNED

A man from Elk Grove is presumed drowned. Omar Chaar, a graduate of Franklin High School in Elk Grove, was celebrating his 25th birthday on Sunday, August 9, 2015.

He and his friends headed to the popular green waters of the South Yuba River State Park. They all hiked into the Emerald Pool to see some high cliff jumping and enjoy a slide down a thirty-foot waterfall.

Omar’s father, Ramez Chaar tells how Omar slid down the waterfall into the large pond but never came back up from beneath the water. Chaar indicated that there should be warning signage.

Omar Chaar, a strong swimmer, was studying biochemistry at Sacramento  State University.

Search efforts are underway again today by the Nevada County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue. The county’s dive team is also looking for Omar Chaar.  Although the investigation is still in progress we have learned that the undercurrent is more than likely the cause of the presumed drowning.

“I would not recommend anyone slide down the waterfall,” said sheriffs’, Captain Jeff Pettitt.
