Facial Injury in Elk Grove Traffic Accident

A traffic accident in front of Mosier Cattle Ranch in Elk Grove on January 2, 2020, resulted in injury. The accident happened on Grant Line Road when a Ford Fusion and a white sedan plus two additional vehicles collided at 4:18 in the evening. According to a representative of the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the driver in the white sedan suffered a facial injury, and an ambulance was called to transport them to the hospital. Traffic in the area was halted as the accident was investigated. Both the CHP and the Sacramento Fire Department were at the site of the traffic accident. The condition of the driver has not been updated as of the time of this report. The CHP has not said whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the collision.

Facial Injuries in a Traffic Accident

Traffic accidents commonly cause facial injuries. Not only do such injuries cause physical pain, but they also result in financial harm as well. If facial injuries are serious, corrective surgery may be required. Injuries of this nature can be costly, emotionally draining, and painful. In many cases, cosmetic surgeons who specialize in facial reconstruction surgery are needed. Even after the surgery is completed, the injured party may be scarred for life.

Types of Facial Injury

There are a variety of facial injuries people suffer in a traffic collision. Let’s look at some of the most common:

  • Broken bones: Facial fractures occur when the injured party hits the steering wheel, door, dashboard, and even the airbag. Since there are 14 bones in the face, it is not hard to end up with a fractured nose or a broken jaw. Some of the more common symptoms are nosebleeds, problems breathing, facial numbness, and lacerations. Some others are clear fluid draining out of the nose, vision and hearing problems, and the inability to close the mouth. While some facial bones may heal in time, others require surgical intervention. Many times, multiple surgeries are needed.
  • Cuts and bruises: Lacerations and bruises are a big part of facial injuries. Some cuts are deep and may result in disfiguring scars. Many lacerations follow a jagged pattern, making it difficult to repair. Cosmetic surgery is often needed to repair the cut or the scar.
  • Burn injuries: Fires can occur in a traffic collision, and the face can suffer unsightly burns. The burned area often requires skin grafts to repair it. Strict adherence to sterile techniques must be maintained to prevent infection. Such facial injuries are painful, and corrective surgery may require multiple operations.
  • Dental injuries: Lost or broken teeth are common after a car accident. In order to be repaired, the person may need veneers, dentures, implants, and other restorative measures. This is done by a cosmetic/oral surgeon and is costly. The problem is that most people do not have dental insurance, and sometimes, even if they do, the insurer will not cover what they feel is cosmetic surgery. Without dental repair, the person with tooth injury may be forced to live with the damage and be unable to eat properly. That is why it is important to file a claim against the negligent driver.
  • Changes in appearance: One’s appearance is important to us. A facial injury may change that. The injured party’s confidence may be affected if it is left untreated.
  • Eye injury: Eye damage can easily occur in a traffic accident. Some possible injuries include retinal detachment, corneal abrasions, injury to the optic nerve, burns, and blindness. Such damage may require surgical intervention. In some cases, the injured person may lose their sight, or the eye may be damaged beyond repair. In the latter case, the person may need a prosthetic eye and possible surgery to repair the bones around it.

How an Attorney Can Help

Our firm sends our investigative team to the scene of the accident to gather evidence and prove fault. We do this by talking to witnesses, obtaining traffic camera video footage, and reviewing police reports for errors. Our investigators also use accident reconstructive techniques. Once this is finished, the information is sent to our legal team, who use it in constructing a winning case for our client.
