Eureka Area Crash Fatally Injures Woman
I’m Ed Smith, a Eureka car accident lawyer. Local authorities have reported that a young woman lost her life after she was involved in a single-vehicle accident that took place on a rural highway southeast of Eureka. California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that the crash happened on Monday, April 30, 2018, on State Route 36 in Humboldt County. The woman was identified by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office as Chelsea Renee Cash, a 22-year-old resident of Quincy, California, in Plumas County. CHP officials are currently investigating and have said that they are unsure why the accident occurred. It has been suggested by officers that a vehicle malfunction may have been involved in the crash.
I would like to extend my sympathies to Cash’s family members and friends as they mourn the tragic passing of their loved one.
Collision Details
CHP stated that the accident occurred shortly before 7:25 p.m. on State Route 36 to the west of mile marker 29.15 between the unincorporated communities of Bridgeville and Dinsmore. CHP stated that Cash had been driving east on the roadway at high speeds when her vehicle, a 1999 Dodge Intrepid, drove off of the road and onto the gravel-paved shoulder on the road’s eastbound side. After her car drove onto the shoulder, it veered to the left and traveled across the oncoming traffic lane. The Dodge’s right side then struck a tree and finally came to a stop. The collision with the tree was reported to have caused major damage to the passenger side of the car.
Response
CHP said that, before their officers arrived at the scene, medical responders were able to reach the site of the crash. Responders stated that Cash was found inside of her vehicle with severe injuries. Cash was extricated from the car and medics began to try to save her life by giving her CPR. However, her injuries were too severe, and she eventually passed away at the accident site. She was sadly declared deceased by officials at around 8:20 p.m.
No other vehicles or individuals were reported to be involved in this tragic accident.
Investigation
CHP has reported that they do not know what factors caused this accident and noted that mechanical issues may have been involved. Those who have any information they believe could help officers understand why this accident happened have been asked to call CHP at either (707) 268-200 or (707) 822-5981.
