Traumatic Eureka Double-Vehicle Crash
According to local officials, a Eureka double-vehicle crash left at least one individual with injuries requiring hospital care on Wednesday, March 18, 2020. The collision reportedly took place on the western side of the city in a residential area. Details about the injured parties have not yet been provided by officials. Additionally, the Eureka Police Department (EPD) is currently investigating possible collision factors.
Collision Details
According to EPD, the crash occurred at approximately 10:13 p.m. at the intersection of Fairfield and West Harris Streets. Reports indicated that the collision involved a Toyota 4Runner and a small sedan. The Toyota allegedly attempted to make a turn from Fairfield to enter the right-hand lane of West Harris and collided with the smaller vehicle while inside of the intersection.
Investigation
As EPD investigators continue to look into what may have caused the crash, no suspected factors have officially been reported. Two-vehicle collisions are common and can happen for a variety of reasons. Many of these causes are things that lie outside of the control of drivers involved in the collision. Such factors can include common accident causes like defective car parts or issues with the road.
Intersection Accidents
Intersections are an especially dangerous part of the road and typically see a relatively higher amount of collisions than straightaways. There are several reasons that intersections have a high rate of collisions. One of the main reasons is that the directions in which traffic travels are multiplied, meaning that drivers, pedestrians, and other roadway users need to be even more aware.
However, some intersections are especially dangerous due to specific issues with the road. In some cases, it is difficult to see oncoming traffic because of the roadway’s design. In others, there may be missing, damaged, or inadequate signage. Another common issue is that the intersection has a confusing design, making it difficult for roadway users to anticipate where traffic may be coming from.
Accidents and Liability
After being injured in an auto accident, people are often in a difficult situation. Being inured can mean enduring a very difficult recovery process that is often both mentally stressful and physically painful. Furthermore, being injured is likely to affect your ability to work. This often leaves crash survivors without income for a significant period of time, which can dramatically affect their lives and make it difficult or impossible to pay for the necessary medical expenses they need to regain their health.
However, depending on the circumstances of the accident, crash survivors are often able to hold one or more negligent parties responsible for these losses. By filing personal injury claims, injured people can seek to hold negligent drivers, manufacturers of faulty car parts, governments responsible for roadway maintenance, or other at-fault parties financially liable for medical bills, lost wages, and more.
