Eureka Man Identified After Deadly Hit-and-Run
On Wednesday, March 3, 2021, Humboldt County authorities released the identity of a Eureka man who tragically lost his life during a hit-and-run auto accident. Officials identified the man as 61-year-old Marc Broussard. According to reports made by California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash happened at night on a local highway and involved two different passenger vehicles. While the collision was reported as a hit-and-run, police have since located the missing driver and placed him under arrest.
Crash Details
The accident occurred at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2021, on Highway 36, close to mile marker 15. A 31-year-old man from Rio Dell was driving eastbound on 36 in a vehicle of unreported make and model when his car drifted over the median and entered westbound traffic. As it entered oncoming lanes, the vehicle crashed head-on into Broussard’s car, causing extensive damage to both vehicles. Following the accident, the Rio Dell man left the scene.
Response and Arrest
Responders were dispatched to the accident site by CHP directly after police received a call regarding the crash. At the scene, responders discovered that Broussard and a passenger in his vehicle had both sustained severe injuries. Both men were rushed to area hospitals so that they could be given emergency medical care. Tragically, Broussard lost his life while in hospital custody. Updates on the passenger’s health condition remain unavailable at this time.
Police started searching for the missing motorist right away and eventually located him in Rio Dell. According to reports, he was placed under arrest on charges of hit-and-run and driving under the influence. As of the latest reports, the individual was still in the custody of the Humboldt County jail.
The Impact of Fatal Accidents
Learning that a person you love has suddenly lost their life because of a car accident can be emotionally devastating. For many, it can be difficult to process what happened, and coping with grief can be both difficult and time-consuming. While the grieving process looks different for everyone, many people find comfort by taking time to be with their family and friends. For more information about how car accidents relate to grief, you can read this helpful article.
However, taking time to grieve can be hard for families who’ve suffered a financial impact because of their loss. In many fatal accident cases, families are suddenly left with an important income source or may no longer have access to services that their loved one would perform. Furthermore, families may have been left with medical bills for medical services that were rendered before the decedent passed. Altogether, these issues can leave families confused about how they’ll be able to move forward with financial security.
