Eureka Pedestrian Struck By Vehicle
On Friday, November 18, 2019, an Eureka pedestrian suffered severe injuries after an auto accident. Eureka Police Department (EPD) reported that the accident happened just after sunset in Eureka outside of a gas station. Medical officials have not released any updates regarding the injured pedestrian’s condition. Additionally, the accident remains under investigation.
Crash Details
EPD indicated that the crash occurred at 5:30 p.m. at the gas station on the 100 block of Harris Street in southern Eureka. Police say the vehicle’s driver reported that the pedestrian “appeared out of nowhere” as she turned left to enter Harris Street from California Street. EPD officers and personnel from City Ambulance and Humboldt Bay Fire arrived at the collision site shortly after the incident.
Medical responders indicated that the pedestrian had sustained injuries to their face. The unidentified individual was transported to a local hospital via ambulance for medical attention. No other individuals suffered injuries as a result of this accident.
Pedestrian Injuries
As days get shorter as we enter winter, public roads are becoming even more dangerous for pedestrians. Even if pedestrians wear bright clothing and do their best to walk predictably, low-light conditions still make it more difficult for drivers to see them, contributing to numerous traumatic accidents yearly.
Furthermore, because pedestrians aren’t protected by airbags, metal walls, or seat belts, they are likely to suffer significant injuries even in low-speed collisions. Common pedestrian injuries include:
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Spinal cord trauma
- Abrasions
- Bone fractures
- Internal injuries
- Facial fractures
Facial Injuries
Facial injuries can severely affect crash survivors’ lives. These injuries can cause permanent scarring and even facial movement or sensation loss. These injuries are apparent and can seriously impact crash survivors’ emotional well-being. While many people with facial injuries need surgeries, therapy, and medication to fully recover after their accident, medical costs can be prohibitive. In turn, worrying about how you will be able to pay for the care you need can cause your mental health to suffer even more.
Calling an Attorney
The challenges that crash survivors suffer are serious. For this reason, injured parties need to contact an Eureka personal injury lawyer as soon as possible. The earlier an attorney can investigate the accident and build your case, the better they can ensure you receive the compensation you deserve for your financial and personal losses. However, the payments available in injury claims differ based on the specific details of your situation. It’s always best to contact an experienced injury lawyer to understand what you can recover.
