Walerga Road Auto Accident Causes Facial Injuries
A single-vehicle crash in North Highlands caused facial injuries to the driver on August 3. The accident happened shortly before 9:00 a.m. along northbound Walerga Road just north of Larchmont Drive when the driver of a van lost control of their vehicle and struck a tree, ending up in a grassy area on the right-hand side. According to the report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), emergency medics with Sac Metro Fire arrived and determined the driver had suffered facial lacerations. Data on whether that patient was taken to a hospital was not supplied. The accident is under investigation to determine how it occurred.
Facial Injuries in an Accident
Different types of roadway accidents result in injuries to the face. They are:
- Car accidents: Facial injuries are common in car accidents. The problem is after impact, occupants are exposed to broken glass and various flying objects. On some occasions, individuals are thrown from the vehicle, causing various trauma. Dashboards, airbags deploying at a considerable speed, and windows also pose problems.
- Motorcycles accidents: Bikers are exposed to the elements and, as such, frequently experience facial injuries. A national study showed that one in five motorcyclists without a helmet suffered serious facial trauma.
- Pedestrian facial injuries: Due to their lack of protection in an accident, pedestrians often suffer facial injuries.
- Truck accidents: When passenger vehicle occupants are involved in an accident with a big rig, the possibility of facial trauma is high.
Types of Facial Injuries
Common facial injuries suffered in a roadway accident are:
- Facial laceration: The seriousness of facial cuts depends on their depth. Superficial lacerations generally heal without medical intervention. However, deeper lacerations often require sutures to heal. Deeper lacerations are also more likely to scar. One of the biggest problems clients mention is that their insurance fails to cover cosmetic surgery, which may be necessary for a facial scar. That issue is resolvable.
- Broken bones: Facial bones can be fractured and affect multiple processes such as breathing, eating and talking. To restore these abilities, surgical intervention may be needed. Multiple bones may be broken in a car accident.
- Facial soft tissue injury: This is a common result of a car accident and may require cosmetic repair.
- Vision loss: Because glass and flying objects within the vehicle may injure the eyes, vision loss is possible.
- Burns: In some accidents, the driver and passengers may suffer facial burns. Depending on the severity, care in a burn unit and surgical grafts may be needed.
Scarring in a Roadway Accident
Scarring as a consequence of a roadway accident can be difficult to deal with on a personal level. It can cause embarrassment and a refusal to engage socially with others. The emotional and psychological harm this causes should be compensated if it occurs due to another’s negligence. This type of disfigurement is a major component of a personal injury case against the defendant.
Investigating Facial Injuries
At AutoAccident.com, we send our investigators to the scene of the accident to determine liability. This is accomplished in a variety of ways, beginning with performing accident reconstruction techniques. Our investigators also interview witnesses, review police reports for mistakes and examine roadway defects. They obtain surveillance camera videos that show the accident in real-time. Once the investigative evidence is obtained, it is handed over to our legal team to build a robust case for our clients.
