Fairfield Big Rig Collision
I’m Ed Smith, a Fairfield personal injury lawyer. On Tuesday, April 18, 2017, an accident on highway Interstate 80 in Fairfield that involved multiple vehicles and a big rig truck caused serious traffic and injuries.
Accident Details
The accident was reported to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) at 9:37 a.m. The report that CHP received indicated that a large wreck had happened only minutes earlier on the westbound side of Interstate 80, only a short distance east of the junction at Air Base Parkway.
Fairfield Big Rig Collision Involved Two Other Vehicles
CHP officer Dawn Dwyer reported that the incident had involved three vehicles, two mid-size sedans and a big rig truck. The initial cause of the collision has not been reported by CHP and there are no reports currently available on what the circumstances were that led to the wreck. Dwyer reported that when CHP arrived at the scene of the crash, the vehicles were in a large ditch just outside of the shoulder of the highway. The big rig truck had overturned and toppled into the ditch. One of the sedans was left immobile off to the side of the wreck and the other was pinned underneath the overturned big rig’s trailer.
Injuries and Response
In addition to the CHP, the Fairfield Fire Department and Vacaville Fire Department also responded to the incident in order to assist in the extrication of the occupants of the vehicle that was trapped under the big rig, as well as provide the injured victims with emergency medical services.
One Person Taken By Ambulance to Hospital
While CHP reported that injuries were sustained in the crash, there is not yet specific information on how many people were injured or how severe the injuries were. At least one victim was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance for treatment.
Traffic and Cleanup
Initially, the fourth and fifth lanes of the westbound section of Interstate 80 were closed off while response crews worked to extricate victims. After the victims had been extricated and given medical attention, crews of workers and towing services began to remove the wreckage from the scene of the accident. Serious traffic delays ensued on the westbound section of the highway and did not let up until 2:30 p.m. when CHP officially reopened the closed lanes of the roadway. All in all, CHP reported, the lanes were shut off for around four and a half hours. Traffic delays were, however, not as serious as they could have been, since the accident did not occur during peak commute hours.
Fairfield Big Rig Collisions
If you are in an accident involving a big rig truck, it is important to take action as soon as possible. Because trucking companies are large entities, they normally have teams ready to start working as soon as possible to mitigate their company’s liability to pay for damages in the event of an accident. Seeking legal representation as soon as possible can help prevent them from doing so.
