Fairfield Man Identified Following Suspected Hit-and-Run
On Saturday, March 13, 2021, one person tragically lost his life in a suspected hit-and-run car accident in Fairfield. On Monday, the Solano County Sheriff’s Office identified him as Salome Godinez, a 60-year-old man from Fairfield. The accident reportedly happened in the morning in a rural area on the northwestern side of the city. The incident is reportedly still under investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Accident Information
According to FPD, officers first received a call about a possible hit-and-run crash at around 9:45 a.m. The caller reported that someone may have been hit by a vehicle on Abernathy road just north of the intersection at Andrews Lane in the Suisun Valley area. When police arrived at the location, they discovered Godinez with critical injuries. Tragically, he was pronounced deceased on-site.
Investigation of Suspected Hit-and-Run
At this time, police have not released any specific details about what could have taken place during the accident and have also not reported any information about the suspected driver or missing vehicle. As they continue to look into the incident, officers have urged the public to aid with the investigation. Any potential accident witnesses or people who have relevant information to share should call (707) 428-2100 to speak with officers involved with investigating this crash.
Hit-and-Runs and Recovering Compensation
After deadly auto accidents, families are frequently able to obtain the compensation that they need to cover their economic damages by filing a wrongful death claim. In most cases, these claims seek to hold at-fault motorists and/or their insurance companies financially responsible. However, with hit-and-runs, the reckless driver may never be located, leaving families worried that they won’t be able to obtain any compensation.
However, it may be possible to do so by filing a claim with your own insurance company. Often, insurance policies include “uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage,” which allows people to seek payments for accidents when the at-fault party is unable to pay. This type of coverage is optional in CA, though, and the amount of payment available depends on your specific insurance policy. Furthermore, insurers may try to offer you less than you truly deserve for your damages, so it is important to have advice from a Fairfield personal injury lawyer before filing your claim.
