Fairfield Teen Hurt in Hit-and-Run Receives Get-Well Caravan

On Thursday, June 25, 2020, a group of friends organized a get-well caravan for a 14-year-old girl who was seriously hurt during a local hit-and-run accident. The accident occurred a few days earlier on Monday, June 22, and left the teenager in crutches. The Fairfield Police Department (FPD) is reportedly still actively looking for the missing vehicle and driver. Additionally, medical officials indicated that the girl was expected to fully recover from her injuries.

The Get-Well Caravan

The caravan included eight vehicles that passed by the injured teenager’s home. Participants in the caravan included the girls’ friends from school as well as members of her family’s church in Benicia. In addition to the display of support, the family was presented with a gift basket full of treats to help the teenager recover comfortably.

Collision Details

According to FPD, the accident happened at around 1:28 p.m. outside of Green Valley Middle School. The teenager was riding her mother’s bicycle and was struck by a vehicle that accident witnesses say had been seen driving in a nearby location at unsafe speeds shortly before the accident occurred. Reportedly, the teen waited for an oncoming car to pass before entering the roadway and did not see the hit-and-run vehicle.

Officials indicated the teen was struck head-on by a 2003 or 2004 Toyota Camry. The teenager was knocked off her bike and onto the hood of the Toyota. FPD indicated that the accident also knocked off one of the vehicle’s mirrors. The driver reportedly sped away directly after the incident.

Response

When emergency responders arrived at the scene, they found the teenager more than 50 feet away from her wrecked bicycle. Medics determined that she had sustained a serious laceration to one of her legs as well as several bruises and scrapes. She was placed on an ambulance and driven to a nearby hospital to receive emergency medical care. Doctors reportedly applied seven stitches to her leg and indicated that if the injury had been an inch deeper, it could have been critical.

Investigation

As police continue to look for the missing driver, the teenager’s family has stated that they want the motorist to be captured. The family is reportedly offering a $1,000 dollar reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the missing driver. Anybody with information about the accident has been urged to contact FPD at (707) 428-7300.

Hit-and-Run Accidents and Compensation

After a hit-and-run collision, people often worry about how they will be able to cover their medical expenses when it isn’t possible to hold the at-fault driver responsible. While police often do locate hit-and-run drivers, it may be possible for your family to claim compensation even if the driver is never found. This is possible through “uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage,” an optional part of CA insurance policies. Learn more about how to effectively recover compensation after hit-and-run accidents by speaking personally to a Fairfield personal injury lawyer at your earliest opportunity.
