Multiple Injuries Occur in Interstate 80 Traffic Accident

A traffic accident in Fairfield on July 22 left four people with injuries ranging from major to minor. The collision occurred along Interstate 80 near the off-ramp for Airbase Parkway. A report issued by the Fairfield Fire Department and a photo taken at the scene showed an SUV by the side of the road with major damage to the front, hood, windshield and sides. The people who were injured in the collision were taken to trauma centers for treatment.

Injuries in a Traffic Accident

Car accidents are a leading cause of injury and death in the United States, resulting in more than two million injuries every year. Many car accident injuries are caused by driver negligence, distracted driving, or other dangerous behavior. Out-of-control car accident injuries can range from minor bruises to serious and life-threatening trauma such as internal bleeding, traumatic brain injuries, and neck and spine damage to burns.

Is a Driver Responsible for Passenger Injuries in an Accident?

A driver has a responsibility to their passengers and others on the road to operate their vehicle in a safe manner to avoid a traffic collision. When a driver fails to do so, they can be held responsible for any injuries or damages that result from an accident. Those injured in a car accident need to consult with an experienced personal injury attorney who can help them seek justice following their traffic crash and receive the compensation they deserve for their losses.

Mechanical Failure Can Lead to a Traffic Accident

Several factors, such as faulty tires, steering, accelerators, brakes, or motors can cause a vehicle to crash. Accidents may be caused by the following factors:

  • Tires: In the event of a tire blowout or tread separation, the driver may lose control of the vehicle, resulting in a crash.
  • Sticking accelerator: The driver can easily lose control if the accelerator doesn’t work or sticks.
  • Steering: The wheel may lock up if the driver’s power steering fails, preventing him or her from controlling the vehicle.
  • Brakes: In the event of brake failure, the driver’s vehicle cannot be slowed down, resulting in an accident.
  • Engine problems: Losing oil can suddenly cause an engine to skid because the wheels lock. The driver can lose control in this situation.

Whenever a mechanical defect causes an accident, an injury lawyer can file a product liability claim against the manufacturer and others. The vehicle should not be destroyed after an accident so engineers can inspect the vehicle for defects.
