Highway Construction Projects in Yuba County During Fall 2020
As the Fall season makes its debut, Caltrans is hard at work implementing various construction projects in Yuba County as well as all over the state. In Yuba specifically, there are currently six active long-term projects being built on state highways as well as multiple smaller short-term jobs scheduled for the coming weeks. These fixes are expected to improve roadway safety and reduce the number of dangerous accidents in the county. Those living in the area may want to know about the changes coming to their highways in the near future.
State Route 20 Projects
Five of the six active long-term construction jobs on Yuba County highways are taking place on State Route 20. Altogether, projects on this highway accounted for around 150 million dollars of funding from local and state governments.
The largest of these projects is happening on a 4.5 mile-long stretch of highway in the area of Browns Valley. The project, worth 61.5 million dollars, is funded jointly by Senate Bill 1 and the Road Repair and Accountability Act (RRAA) of 2017. The project will flatten and straighten curves and slopes in the road as well as widen shoulders and construct an entirely new bridge. The project is expected to be completed sometime during 2021.
Another major project, funded in the amount of 54 million dollars, will also be straightening curves, widening shoulders, and building a bridge. This project will occur near the small community of Timbuctoo and construction is scheduled for spring 2021.
More information about these projects and other construction jobs on State Route 20 can be found here.
State Route 70 Project
The project on State Route 70 has been funded in the amount of 83 million dollars, also through SB1 and the RRAA. The project aims to replace the Simmerly Slough Bridge, and construction isn’t scheduled to be completed until spring 2022. Caltrans indicated that no traffic-affecting work is currently scheduled.
Short-Term Projects
Short-term projects taking place in Yuba County in the near future include:
- State Route 49 between Yuba Pass and Marysville Road
- State Route 65 Near Hooper St.
- State Route 70 near Feather River Blvd.
- State Route 70 and Erle Road
- State Route 64 at Hooper St.
Dangerous Roads and Government Liability
Most people think of reckless motorists when it comes to at-fault parties in car accidents. However, in many cases, there are other individuals or groups that share responsibility for the crash.
When a part of a roadway is unreasonably dangerous, the government body that is responsible for maintaining it may be considered at-fault for accidents that occur in that location. This means that people who’ve suffered injuries may be able to claim compensation from these governments through injury claims. However, injury claims against governments can be complicated.
Critical to remember is that government-involved injury claims need to be filed within 180 days, a dramatically shorter window of time than for other kinds of cases. For this reason, it’s very important to call a lawyer as soon as you are able.
