Fatal Auburn Hit-and-Run Kills One, Injures Two
Local authorities reported that a fatal Auburn hit-and-run took place on Wednesday, October 17, 2019. Auburn Police Department (APD) officers stated that the crash happened in the early morning and injured three people. One of the injured people tragically passed away due to their trauma. The second individual suffered minor injuries while the third was transported to a hospital for major trauma but is expected to recover. The decedent has been identified as Ryan Bonari, an Auburn resident and father. Police say that they arrested the suspected hit-and-run driver late Wednesday night.
Crash Information
According to APD, the collision took place just before 2:00 a.m. on the 100 block of Cleveland Avenue. An unidentified vehicle reportedly struck two pedestrians and immediately began to drive away from the scene. As the driver was backing up in order to flee, their vehicle struck a third pedestrian who was rushing to aid the first two. Witnesses at the site of the crash reportedly told officers that the first collision seemed intentional.
Police reportedly arrested the suspected driver at his home in the nearby community of Foresthill at about 10:50 p.m. The driver was booked into the Placer County Jail with multiple felony charges related to the collision. Reports indicated that no bail has been set.
Investigation and Fundraiser
As police investigate this accident, they have released very little information about the incident. A press release issued the day after the accident by APD stated that it would not be “prudent to provide certain information (…) for the integrity of the investigation.”
