Fatal Business Interstate 80 Accident
Officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to a call about an automobile bumper found during the morning hours of Monday, January 23, 2017. When authorities arrived at the scene, they discovered a crashed vehicle with an unresponsive driver inside.
What Happened?
A call was made to the CHP about a car bumper found along the northbound lanes of Business 80. When officers arrived at the scene, fragments of a vehicle and other debris were scattered along the roadway. After this observation, they immediately located a crashed vehicle not too far from the reported bumper. This was along the off-ramp for Arden Way.
Was the Driver Okay?
When officers looked inside the vehicle, they found an unresponsive driver inside. There was no one else in the vehicle. Sadly, officers pronounced the driver deceased at the scene due to the grave nature of the injuries.
Traffic Mayhem
This tragic fatal car accident prompted the closure of the off-ramp to allow investigators to determine what caused the crash. The closure caused traffic mayhem in the area with vehicles moving less than 10 miles per hour past the accident. Traffic was backed up all the way to Highway 99 in South Sacramento.
What Caused the Accident?
Authorities have not released a report of what they believe caused this fatal accident. Traffic collision reports generally take up to two weeks to be prepared in accidents involving a fatality. Since the rear bumper of the vehicle was found along the highway, it may have been a rear-end automobile accident. However, there was not a second vehicle found at the scene of the accident.
