Fatal Car Crash in Stanislaus County
One driver was killed, and another was seriously injured after a fatal car crash in Stanislaus County on the evening of Wednesday, June 10, 2020. The car accident occurred shortly after 6:30 p.m. on West Main Avenue just east of South Carpenter Road between Turlock and Patterson, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). A 2014 Buick was reportedly involved in a head-on collision with a 2006 Chevrolet driven by a 33-year-old Turlock man. The Buick continued for a short time before crashing into the vehicle behind the Chevrolet, a 2014 GMC driven by a 56-year-old Patterson woman. The Buick allegedly came to a stop along the shoulder of the roadway and caught fire, the CHP reported. The GMC driver suffered serious injuries and was transported to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for treatment. The driver of the Chevrolet was uninjured in the three-vehicle collision. Sadly, the driver of the Buick passed away at the scene. Officials have identified the decedent as 56-year-old Patricia Verducci of Patterson, CA.
Loss of a Loved One
There is no loss, which is more devastating and painful to a family than the loss of a loved one. This is especially true if the loss was a result of a fatal accident caused by the fault of another. Fortunately, California law allows survivors to seek justice and compensation for their loss through a wrongful death claim. There is no amount of money could ever make up for the loss of a close relative, but recovery from a wrongful death case can help protect the family left behind and provide for a secure future. Although it may be challenging to discuss legal issues while you are grieving, surviving family members may find solace knowing that a Patterson wrongful death lawyer helped them through the process of holding negligent parties responsible for their wrongdoing.
Types of Damages in a Wrongful Death Claim
Each wrongful death case is unique and different in its own ways. The amount of economic and non-economic damages awarded is generally determined by multiple factors, including the age, health, education, life expectancy, and lifetime earnings of the decedent. Compensation in a wrongful death case is usually comprised of the following:
- End of life medical care, funeral, and burial expenses
- Loss of a loved one’s care, companionship, and affection
- Loss of future financial support the family would have received from the decedent if not for the wrongful death car accident
- Lost parental guidance and training
- Reimbursement for any household services a loved one would have normally provided to their family
In wrongful death cases involving egregious behaviors, California law allows punitive damages, which are awarded by a jury as a way of punishing the at-fault party for their wrongdoing. This serves to deter others from acting in such harmful ways. Should You Hire a Lawyer for a Fatal Stanislaus County Crash?
Surviving family members who attempt to navigate the wrongful death claims process without the assistance of an attorney may settle for less compensation than what they are entitled to. This is because insurance companies often offer low-ball settlement offers to survivors to take advantage of their vulnerable situations. Insurance carriers do so as a way of protecting their bottom line. When a family has lost someone they love and cannot replace, they should never settle for less. A wrongful death claim is a challenging civil matter that follows strict filing criteria and deadlines. The Patterson wrongful death lawyers of AutoAccident.com are here to help you and your family through this challenging situation to help you focus on grieving and recovering from your loss.
