Deadly Chico Bicycle Accident

On Friday, May 8, 2020, a Chico bicycle accident left one person with fatal trauma. Butte County authorities have identified the decedent as a 65-year-old man but have not yet released his identity publically. The collision involved the cyclist as well as a pickup truck and happened on a local highway. Additionally, the incident remains under investigation.

Crash Information

The accident occurred at around 8:30 p.m. on the eastbound side of Highway 32. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers reported that the elderly man had been riding his bike east near Ten Mile House Trail a few miles east of Chico on the northern edge of Upper Bidwell Park. Police say that they do not know what speed at which the bicycle was traveling.

Police indicated that a 32-year-old man driving a 2018 Chevrolet pickup truck approached the cyclist from behind at a speed of around 55 miles per hour. The front right-end of the truck eventually struck the rear-end of the bicycle, throwing the rider to the ground.

Response

After the crash was reported to CHP, a team of emergency responders was immediately sent out to the accident site. When the responders reached the site of the accident, they found that the elderly man had been critically injured during the crash. Sadly, the man was pronounced deceased before he could be taken to a hospital. No other injuries occurred as a result of the accident.

Investigation of Chico Bicycle Accident

As officers keep looking into the crash, reports have not indicated any likely causes. However, investigators have stated that they do not suspect that driving under the influence was involved. Bicycle accidents involving vehicles can be caused by a variety of causes and often include more than one factor. Many of these factors can’t be controlled by either cyclists or drivers and include defective car and/or bicycle parts, hazardous roads, and more.

Furthermore, investigating a fatal accident can be a difficult task for police to handle. Because the decedent can’t tell police what took place, it’s possible that investigators won’t uncover critical evidence that could have a major impact on your family’s ability to obtain compensation. Because of this, it’s important to reach out to a skilled wrongful death lawyer who can conduct a private investigation.

Wrongful Death Damages

A fatal accident can cause serious issues for families. The pain of suddenly losing somebody you care about is often intense and leaves people feeling unable to handle the demands of daily life. On top of very serious emotional issues, families who’ve suddenly lost somebody frequently also face financial problems. These financial issues can cause families to be unsure of how they will even be able to continue living their lives.

Because these concerns are serious, it’s important to call an attorney as soon as you can. By working with a lawyer and filing wrongful death cases, many grieving families are able to claim the compensation they need to have security in a very difficult period of their lives.
