Teen Killed in Car Crash Near Modesto
A fatal crash near Modesto claimed the life of a 17-year-old from Waterford, California.
What Happened?
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a 17-year-old died from injuries he sustained in a broadside collision with another vehicle. The crash happened on the evening of Thursday, June 16, 2016.
The teenager was behind the wheel of a 2008 Ford Mustang. The CHP indicated the teen was traveling approximately 50 mph while heading west on Yosemite Boulevard. At about 9:55 p.m. he was broadsided by a motorist who ran a red light. The tragedy occurred at the Geer Road intersection.
The motorist who ran a red light has been identified as 40-year-old Matthew Sullivan, of Turlock. Sullivan was driving a 2004 Lexus.
The front of the Lexus made impact with the driver’s side door of the Mustang. This caused the vehicle to careen into a pole that made contact with the passenger side of the car.
What Type of Injuries?
The 17-year-old driver of the Mustang was taken to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. Sadly, he passed away due to the injuries he sustained in the crash.
Two other occupants in the Mustang, a 17-year-old and a 13-year-old, suffered minor to moderate injuries. They were transported to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto as well.
The driver of the Lexus suffered major injuries. He was taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.
Did Alcohol or Drugs Contribute to the Crash?
A preliminary report suggested no alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
Authorities do not know why Sullivan failed to stop for the red light.
The crash is under investigation. It usually takes the investigating agency a couple of weeks to prepare a report of their findings.
