Woman Killed in Car Crash Near Rio Vista
A woman was tragically killed in a crash, east of Shiloh and Lambie Roads, along Highway 12 on Thursday, May 26, 2016.
What Happened?
A woman from Rio Vista passed away Thursday in a crash along Highway 12 between Suisun City and Rio Vista. She reportedly collided head-on with a big-rig that was approaching from the opposite direction.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicated the woman, who was later identified by the Coroner’s Office in Solano County as 50-year-old Renee Cook, was traveling west along Highway 12 in her Ford Expedition around 10:20 a.m. For reasons unknown, she drifted across the center divider and into the path of oncoming traffic.
Ford Expedition Collides Head-On with a Big Rig
A resident of Stockton, Sane Cha, 37, was coming east at the time operating a 2014 Volvo big-rig.
Cha took evasive action that included braking and veering to the right, but could not avoid the impact with the Ford Expedition, according to the CHP.
Cook suffered fatal injuries as a result of her Ford Expedition colliding head-on into Cha’s big-rig.
Cha, the driver of the big rig, suffered only minor injuries and was transported to Vacaville’s Kaiser Permanente Medical Center for treatment.
A motorist’s car traveling behind the big rig was hit by flying debris, but she was not injured in the accident.
What Caused Fatal Crash Near Rio Vista?
The cause of the vehicle versus big rig crash is under investigation by the CHP.
It typically takes a week or two for the CHP to release a traffic collision report.
When one of the drivers in a traffic collision passes away, it makes it more difficult to get both versions of the events leading up to the crash.
Sometimes traffic collision reports may be inconclusive or in error.
This can leave family members and friends of the person who was tragically killed with many unanswered questions.
It is crucial to have an experienced auto accident attorney conducting an independent investigation of the events leading up to a crash.
This is necessary in order to preserve critical evidence and protect the rights of those who have passed away.
