Fatal Crash on SR-108 and Skittone Road

A fatal crash occurred on SR-108 and Skittone Road outside the Riverbank area on the morning of Tuesday, December 14, 2021. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the incident occurred around 9:40 a.m. at State Route 108/Skittone Road and Patterson Road and involved three vehicles.

Details on the Fatal Crash reported on SR-108 and Skittone Road Near Riverbank

CHP traffic officers indicated in a preliminary report that a Honda sedan was traveling westbound on Patterson Road. The location was just east of the intersection of Ladd Road and McHenry Avenue, north of the city of Modesto. The Honda reportedly stopped to make a left turn onto Skittone Road and a Ford SUV approaching from behind allegedly veered to the left to avoid a rear-end collision with the Honda. While negotiating the left turn, the left rear of the Honda was reportedly broadsided by the front right side of the Ford.

The impact of the collision propelled the Ford and caused it to overturn onto its left side into the eastbound lane. The right side of the Ford was allegedly struck by the front of a Chevrolet SUV as the Ford was overturning. Crews from the Modesto Fire Department (Modesto Fire), the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department, and American Medical Response (AMR) were dispatched to the scene to assist CHP officers with the incident.

The Chevrolet driver, a 27-year-old Modesto woman, was transported to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of serious injuries described as internal trauma. The three young children that were riding in the Chevrolet, a 6-month-old girl, a 2-year-old girl, and a 3-year-old boy, were also taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure. Officials indicated that the three young children were found to be uninjured. Details on the relationship between the Chevrolet driver and the three children were not immediately released.

The Honda driver, an Oakdale man, sustained injuries described as minor and reportedly declined medical care at the scene. Sadly, the Ford driver succumbed to her injuries. Officials have recently identified the decedent as 68-year-old Kolleen Jackson of Riverbank. Additional information on the fatal car accident was not immediately disclosed by authorities due to an ongoing investigation.

What to Expect from an Auto Accident Case

A motor vehicle collision may be life-changing for an injured party. The same may be said for surviving family members left behind to pick up the pieces following the loss of a loved one in a crash. When any of these situations arise, it is essential to understand your rights as a claimant. California law recognizes the immense loss that may come with suffering traumatic injuries or coping with the death of a close relative and provides affected parties with a way of holding the negligent individual or entity accountable through a civil case. In the event of a car accident, a claim is generally brought against the insurance company representing the at-fault party.

Through a bodily injury claim, an injured party may seek recovery of economic and non-economic damages such as medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other expenses that are related to the crash. Conversely, a wrongful death claim may provide the much-needed relief survivors need when coping with loss and grief. This may include the recovery of end-of-life medical care costs, funeral service expenses, lost companionship, loss of future earnings, and more. When dealing with any of these situations, it is essential to retain legal counsel that will protect your rights and interests throughout the claims process with difficult insurance companies.
