What is a Wrongful Death Case?
Losing a beloved family member is always devastating, and it often becomes even more profound when their demise results from someone else’s negligence or recklessness. While nothing can truly replace the void left by the absence of a close relative, surviving family members have the opportunity to explore legal options. Bringing a wrongful death claim against the other side and their insurance carrier is one such option. These cases allow survivors to seek compensation for economic and non-economic damages incurred because of a loved one’s wrongful death.
In California, wrongful death refers to cases where a loss of life occurs in an incident caused by recklessness or negligence. When considering legal action, it is essential that survivors retain legal counsel. While it is possible to bring a case without the assistance of an attorney, it is in a family’s best interest to have a lawyer on their side looking out for their best interests. When a family has an experienced lawyer on their side, they can focus on grieving and recovering while their attorney handles their case to obtain a favorable resolution through an insurance settlement or court-ordered award.
