Fatal Dixon Crash
I’m Ed Smith, a Dixon Car Acccident Lawyer. On the night of Wednesday, May 31, 2017, a single vehicle collision just outside of Dixon cost the driver of the vehicle their life and sent the vehicle’s two passengers to a hospital.
Accident Details
The accident occurred at about 8:55 p.m. on Pedrick Road close to the intersection of Dixon Avenue on the eastern outskirt of the city. According to reports from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the driver had been driving a white 2004 Ford Mustang down Pedrick Road at speeds well over the speed limit as well as passing other vehicles in order to maintain dangerous speeds.
While driving recklessly, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and veered onto the right shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle overturned as a result of the sharp veering and eventually came to a stop on the side of the road, landing upright after rolling over. No other vehicles or pedestrians were involved in the collision.
Fatalities and Injuries
When first responders arrived at the scene of the accident, they found the driver of the vehicle, whose identity has not been reported, had died during the accident and pronounced him dead on-scene. The two passengers of the vehicle, a teenage girl and a young boy, were taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital for treatment of their injuries. There is currently no further information available regarding the nature of the injuries that the two passengers sustained.
Causal Factors
The CHP has not issued a statement on whether or not they think that driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs may have had a part to play in causing this accident, although it is clear that both driving over the speed limit and reckless driving were contributing factors.
Speeding and Auto Accidents
According to research conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the estimated annual cost of damages and injuries caused by speeding accidents in the United States is $40.4 billion. Additionally, the NHTSA reports that speeding is one of the most prevalent factors that contribute to auto accidents and that, on average, speeding is a factor in about 31 percent of all fatal vehicle collisions.
NHTSA also reports that speeding greatly reduces the ability of a driver to safely maneuver around objects or curves in the roadway. Speeding also, increases the amount of distance that a vehicle will travel while a driver reacts to a dangerous roadway condition, and extends the amount of distance that is required to bring the vehicle to a stop. All of these factors significantly increase the risk of being involved in an accident resulting in fatalities or traumatic injuries.
