Fatal Eureka Area Crash
I’m Ed Smith, a Eureka auto accident attorney. An auto accident occurred along a rural road in Humboldt County near Eureka on Friday, March 2, 2018. Unfortunately, the accident caused a Chula Vista man to suffer fatal injuries.
I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of the man who passed away.
Accident Details
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) released a public report indicating that they first received a call reporting a crashed vehicle at approximately 3:00 p.m. However, as the collision had no witnesses, the exact time that the vehicle crashed remains unknown. Reports by CHP indicated that a man had been traveling westbound along State Route 36 near milepost 23 when his vehicle reportedly veered off the roadway. The driver appeared to have attempted to correct his vehicle but allegedly turned too sharply, overturned and traveled down a steep roadside embankment. The vehicle came to a rest on its wheels against a large boulder at the bottom of the embankment after colliding with a tree.
Emergency Response
Responding officers reported that the vehicle sustained major damages and was difficult to see from the roadway. Because of the difficulty to spot the vehicle, CHP was unsure of how long the collision had occurred prior to their notification. Additionally, it had been snowing and raining intermittently throughout the day, which may have contributed to both the collision and the difficulty of spotting the accident.
Nature of Injuries
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to render aid to the injured driver but it was, unfortunately, too late. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene by officials.
Identity of Victim
The Humboldt County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as 31-year-old Trenton Hudson of Chula Vista.
Investigation
A cause of the accident has not yet been released due to ongoing investigation by the CHP.
