Fatal Fairfield Train Crash

I’m Ed Smith, a Fairfield personal injury lawyer. On Saturday, June 10, 2017, a Capitol Corridor train struck and fatally injured a man just outside of Fairfield.

Details of the Fatal Fairfield Train Crash

The train accident occurred at around 3:30 p.m. when a train traveling from Oakland to Sacramento struck a person a couple miles outside of Fairfield in unincorporated Solano County. The individual was allegedly illegally trespassing and walking on the train tracks when the accident occurred.

The specific injuries that the individual received, the identity of the individual, and the specific location of the accident were not reported by Amtrak and are as of yet unavailable.

Our condolences go out to the loved ones of the deceased individual.

Resulting Delays

At the time of the accident, the train had 135 passengers on board. These passengers were delayed about an hour while they were transferred to another train. No other changes to the regular Amtrak scheduled were reported.

Railroad Accident Fatalities

According to information from the Federal Railroad Administration, an average of about 720 people die in train accidents annually in the United States. According to their statistics, the vast majority of these casualties happen to people not affiliated with the railroad who are walking along the tracks, with 730 of these accidents happening in 2016 alone.

In order to prevent these deaths, the United States’ Department of Transportation, in cooperation with volunteer groups, is promoting public awareness in conjunction with law enforcement efforts that aim to encourage railroad safety. Additionally, recent accidents involving railroad crossings in New York and California have prompted lawmakers at the federal level to increase funding specifically for improving the safety of railroad crossings.

Wrongful Death

Losing a person that one loves is an extremely difficult thing to endure. Those who’ve recently lost someone often feel that coping with that loss is a full-time job and leaves little time to worry about taking care of the details that follow. However, if your loved one died in an accident caused by another party, the chances are that the responsible party does not have to deal with the same emotional difficulties.

Those responsible for the death of another are usually quick to do everything they can in order to mitigate their responsibility in the eyes of courts and insurance adjusters. Calling a lawyer can not only help to prevent responsible parties from covering up key evidence but can help families and friends of the deceased to focus on the healing process.
