Fatal Head-On Collision Near Dos Palos
A head-on collision near Dos Palos in Merced County reportedly left two parties with fatal injuries on July 20, 2023. The crash occurred at approximately 9:45 p.m. in the area of SR-33 and Christian Avenue, officials said. A total of two vehicles were involved, including a 2020 Honda and a 2015 Nissan, the California Highway Patrol reported.

A preliminary release by officials revealed that an 18-year-old Dos Palos man was behind the wheel of the Honda headed northbound on SR-33. A 2015 Nissan, driven by Rosie Lee Mayes, 75, of Dos Palos, was traveling southbound on State Route 33.
Authorities indicated that one of the cars allegedly veered into the oncoming traffic lane resulting in a head-on collision with the other vehicle. It is believed by officials that one of the vehicles did not have its headlights activated at the time of the incident, and the other vehicle was allegedly overtaking another car.
Both motorists suffered fatal injuries in the two-vehicle crash, CHP traffic officers reported. Further details into the fatal head-on collision on SR-33 near Dos Palos were not immediately available.
