ECCFPD crews responding to the scene located two cars that appeared to have been involved in a broadside collision. A preliminary investigation revealed that 72-year-old Susan Lovospastor of Knightsen was driving westbound on Grant Street while another driver was headed westbound on Grant Street. Things Survivors Should Know About the Wrongful Death Claims Process

A family tragedy may leave emotional and financial hardship in its wake. No one ever would want to believe that a close relative’s life ended because of someone else’s negligence. However, this is often the unfortunate reality of a catastrophic accident. When surviving family members are grieving the loss of their loved one after a fatal crash, they should learn about their potential rights and options for financial recovery. Fortunately, an experienced Brentwood wrongful death lawyer is there to assist survivors in informing them what the legal process entails and how insurance companies representing at-fault parties work to benefit themselves, not the affected family.

It is essential to take appropriate measures to start the legal process immediately. Strict filing criteria and deadlines apply to such cases. Under the California Code of Civil Procedure Section 335.1, surviving family members have two years from the date of a loved one’s passing to accept an insurance settlement offer or file a lawsuit in court. Survivors are expected to follow CCP 335.1 as not settling the case and failing to file in court within the two-year statute of limitations may result in case dismissal.

It is challenging to come to terms with the loss of a loved one and deal with wrongful death claims. That is why it is best to leave these cases to an experienced attorney to handle. A lawyer is there to support survivors in their time of grief and provide the support necessary in helping them overcome these situations. However, selecting the right attorney for the case may be difficult, especially if families are unsure of what to look for. Below is a video with a breakdown on how to find the best lawyer to handle wrongful death matters.
