Fatal Motorcycle Accident Kills Merced Man

I’m Ed Smith, a Merced Wrongful Death Lawyer. A fatal motorcycle accident killed a Merced man on Saturday, September 30 in San Andreas, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

We would like to extend our condolences to the loved ones of the motorcyclist who lost his life in this tragedy.

Details of the Accident

The accident on September 30 involved a motorcycle and multiple vehicles on Highway 49, just south of Big Bar Road. The motorcycle was traveling at an unknown rate of speed when it crossed the double yellow lines into oncoming traffic around 4:35pm. The 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle was being operated by 62-year-old Merced resident Kirk Silveira.

After traveling into the opposing lane of traffic the motorcycle hit the left rear of a 2013 Ford. The Ford was driven by 60-year-old Sloughhouse resident Karen Jensen. The bike then suffered a collision with a 2007 Toyota. The Toyota was driven by 29-year-old, Irina Katko.

Silveira was thrown from the motorcycle, suffering fatal injuries. Neither Katko nor Jensen suffered injuries in the accident. The CHP does not know if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash, but the crash is still under investigation. The CHP is asking that anyone who witnessed the accident to call the San Andreas office.

Common Injuries Caused by Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcycle accidents can leave lasting effects on injured parties, especially if the rider is ejected from the bike. Not all motorcycle injuries will be life-altering, but they can still cause plenty of problems for the rider. From missing time at work to falling into a difficult financial situation, a motorcycle accident can leave a person with a slew of issues. Some of the most common injuries caused by motorcycle accidents include the following:

People hurt in motorcycle accidents can find themselves out of work for prolonged periods, or they might not even be able to return to work depending on the severity of their injury. Because of this, injured parties are within their legal rights to file injury claims or lawsuits in an effort to recover damages for lost wages, medical expenses, pain and suffering and future loss of wages. There is a time limit on filing such a claim- in California it is two years from the date of the injury.
