Fatal Motorcycle Accident Near Modesto

Fatal Modesto Motorcycle Accident

A Grand Canyon University student was riding his motorcycle near Modesto during the evening hours of Sunday, August 6, 2017. Unfortunately, this would be the last ride the man would take after a vehicle collided with him.

I would like to extend my deepest thoughts and sympathies to the loved ones of the young man that passed away in this tragic motorcycle accident.

What Happened?

A 21-year-old man, who happened to be a 2014 graduate of the Modesto Christian High School, was riding his motorcycle eastbound along Standiford Avenue in the vicinity of Tully Road at about 6:00 pm. The motorcyclist was traveling in the lane closest to the sidewalk. At the same time, a 77-year-old woman was behind the wheel of her Toyota parked along the side of the road. The woman allegedly failed to yield the right-of-way to the motorcyclist by making a U-turn in front of him, resulting in a serious collision.

Was Anybody Injured?

The 21-year-old man suffered major injuries due to the motorcycle accident and was transported to a local hospital. Sadly, the young man later succumbed to his injuries during medical treatment.

Similar Motorcycle Accident Near Modesto

A similar motorcycle accident took place near Modesto on July 30, 2017. This motorcycle accident occurred one week prior to the recent one discussed above. A motorcyclist was traveling along Highway 99 northbound near the off-ramp for Tuolumne Boulevard at about 4:27 pm. For reasons that are not known, the rider crashed his motorcycle along the gore point of the Tuolumne Boulevard off-ramp. The impact, unfortunately, caused the motorcyclist to suffer traumatic injuries.

Motorcycle Accident Statistics

According to the Insurance Information Institute (III), approximately 4,976 victims passed away in motorcycle accidents in 2015. This number was found to be an 8.3% increase from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) report for 2014, where 4,594 fatalities resulted from such accidents. A 2016 Modesto Accident Statistic report revealed that there were approximately 46 motorcycle accidents in the city alone. These statistics may be shocking or even frightening to fellow riders and their loved ones. It is important to check your blind spot before changing lanes and clear an intersection before proceeding. Avoid drunk driving and texting and driving at all costs. By practicing good driving habits, you are ensuring not only your safety but also the safety of those traveling along the roadway with you.
