Cause of Fatal Motorcycle Accident Under Investigation
The Sacramento County Coroner arrived at the scene to declare the rider deceased, and the motorcycle was transported from there as evidence. The accident is currently under investigation to determine how it occurred and to place fault.
Filing a Wrongful Death Claim
Unfortunately, motorcycle riders are vulnerable when they are involved in a collision with a much heavier vehicle. Often, the driver of the car or truck turns out to be at fault for the accident. When this happens, the family can file a claim for wrongful death. Although it will not lessen their grief and sense of loss, it can help them avoid the financial pressure they face at the time of their loved one’s death and possibly in the future. Over the years, we’ve helped many families in obtaining compensation, which lessens the financial stress and holds the at-fault party responsible.
How a Fatal Motorcycle Accident Happens
There are certainly times when a fatal motorcycle accident is caused by an error on the part of the rider. However, not always. Many times, a negligent motorist or other entity is the cause. Some of the ways in which a fatal motorcycle accident happens include:
- The most common cause of a fatal motorcycle accident that involves another motorist is because the driver makes a left turn in front of the biker. In many cases, the motorist says they never saw the motorcycle coming toward them. However, this is no excuse. Some of the time, the driver simply thinks the motorcycle rider is further away than they really are, and they can beat them across the road to make a turn before the rider gets near them.
- A motorist stopping short causes many motorcycle accidents. The motorcyclist ends up striking the vehicle in the rear and is ejected from their bike, which is often either fatal or causes severe injuries.
- Lane-splitting is permitted in California but can be dangerous. A driver who suddenly moves into the next lane without spotting a motorcyclist there can end up causing a fatal motorcycle accident. The rider is at a distinct disadvantage because they cannot get out of the way.
- Speeding is a major cause of a fatal motorcycle accident because the driver can’t stop in time to avoid a collision.
