Fatal Multi-Car Crash on I-680 Fremont
According to the California Highway Patrol, a fatal multi-car crash occurred on I-680 in Fremont on the morning of October 14, 2023. The crash occurred shortly after 1:10 a.m. on the southbound side of Interstate 680 near Auto Mall Parkway, authorities reported.

A preliminary release indicated that a gray Dodge Ram was allegedly traveling the wrong way along the southbound side of Interstate 680 when it allegedly collided with a white BMW. The Dodge overturned in the crash and caught fire, officials said.
The BMW driver sustained serious injuries and was treated at an area hospital. The Dodge driver suffered serious burns and injuries and was also taken to the hospital. Sadly, a passenger in the BMW, a woman in her 20s, suffered fatal injuries in the car accident.
The incident caused another crash when a driver of a GMC Terrain attempted to avoid the collision by changing lanes and reducing their speed. Their vehicle was reportedly rear-ended by a Lexus. The Lexus driver was uninjured, while the GMC driver was transported to the hospital for minor injuries.
The southbound side of Interstate 680, close to Auto Mall Parkway in Fremont was closed down for approximately two hours following the incident. An investigation is ongoing, and CHP traffic officers have not yet released more information on the fatal multi-car crash.
