Fatal Pedestrian Accident Near Stockton Channel
I’m Ed Smith, a Stockton personal injury lawyer. A series of accidents occurred along the Interstate 5 bridge near the Stockton channel on the night of Saturday, February 24, 2018. Sadly, the accident caused one pedestrian to suffer traumatic injuries and another pedestrian to suffer fatal injuries.
I would like to send my healing thoughts and prayers to the families of the two good Samaritans during their time of tragedy.
Accident Details
A 20-year-old French Camp resident was driving their Honda southbound along Interstate 5 in the vicinity of Weber Avenue at approximately 11:30 pm. An unidentified vehicle reportedly swerved into the Honda driver’s lane and cut them off. The Honda veered to the right, lost control and came to a rest along the fast lane of travel facing east.
Speeding Driver Crashes Into Good Samaritans
Two good Samaritans traveling in a 2017 Honda pulled over to assist a driver with moving their stalled vehicle off the roadway. While doing so, a 35-year-old Stockton woman was allegedly speeding down the interstate in her Chevrolet and was unable to stop in time for the disabled Honda in her path. Reports indicated that the impact of the collision caused significant harm to the two good Samaritans.
Nature of Injuries
Emergency responders were contacted to the scene to render immediate aid. The drivers of the Honda and the Chevrolet both suffered injuries described as minor to moderate due to the auto accident. It is not yet known whether these drivers were hospitalized for their injuries. One of the two good Samaritans was transported to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. An update on their condition has not yet been released by authorities.
Recovery Efforts
Authorities were unable to locate the other good Samaritan at the scene. Crews from the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office were called to search the surrounding area and water for the good Samaritan. The search carried on for three days until boat crews discovered the body of the victim under the Interstate 5 bridge at approximately 12:07 pm on February 27, 2018.

Accident Investigation
The cause of the pedestrian accident is still under investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
How a Wrongful Death Lawyer Helps
Wrongful death lawyers help people who have lost someone they love due to someone else’s negligent actions, such as speeding, obtain restitution for their losses. Certain parties under California Code of Civil Procedure Section 377.60 may file a wrongful death claim against a negligent party for recovery of the following:
- Funeral and Burial Expenses
- Loss of Consortium
- Loss of Future Financial Support
- Pain and Suffering
Although no amount of money can relieve your pain or bring your loved one back, a fair settlement can alleviate you of financial burden. It is important to contact an experienced attorney to secure your rights and prepare a strong case for proper restitution of your loved one’s untimely passing.
Loved One Forever Remembered
Doris Wilson was a courageous, selfless and caring member of her family. Her unforeseen passing has deeply affected those who surrounded her. She leaves behind a family and two young children, who will forever miss her for her beautiful and loving soul. A GoFundMe account has been established by the loved ones of Wilson to cover her funeral arrangements.
