Fatal Pedestrian Crash on Nelson Avenue
The Modesto Police Department reported a fatal pedestrian crash on Nelson Avenue on the night of Friday, December 2, 2022. Modesto PD received reports of a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident on Orangeburg Avenue in the vicinity of Nelson Avenue at approximately 7:15 p.m.

Officials responded to the scene and located the injured pedestrian. Life-saving measures were performed on the injured party. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries at the crash site. Officials have recently identified the deceased as William Simon, 65, of Modesto.

A preliminary report by Modesto PD revealed that the driver involved in the pedestrian accident initially left the scene. The suspect vehicle, a dark-colored truck or SUV, was headed westbound on Orangeburg Avenue. Authorities have since identified the driver and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
