Speeding Driver Dies in Accident Near 47th Avenue

A multiple-vehicle crash involving five cars occurred in South Sacramento in the Lemon Hill area on May 25 and resulted in injuries and one fatality. The collision happened near the 47th Avenue intersection with Steiner Driver at about 2:00 p.m., as reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). One of the vehicles caught on fire.

Driver Ejected From His Car During Multiple-Vehicle Crash

The driver of a Maserati was reportedly speeding through the intersection when the accident occurred. The man driving the car, age 56, was going around 90 mph when he attempted to turn left when the light turned green. The vehicle struck the median and went airborne, struck four vehicles and ended up on its roof. The driver was ejected, suffering major injuries. He died after his arrival at the hospital. Several others suffered minor injuries in the multiple-vehicle crash.

Street Closed in Both Directions Following Violent Accident

The accident caused the closure of the street in both directions as the scene was cleared, and an investigation was conducted. The CHP investigated the fatal accident for about two hours to document evidence of the crash.

Negligence Usually Causes a Multiple-Vehicle Crash

Making an error or being negligent while behind the wheel of a car can easily lead to an accident involving multiple vehicles. There are many types of negligence, such as:

  • Distracted driving: A multiple-vehicle crash is often the result of distractions such as talking on a cell phone, texting or changing the radio station.
  • Failure to yield: Not allowing another driver to merge, especially when lanes are narrowing down, can lead to an accident that involves multiple vehicles.
  • Drunk driving: Driving while intoxicated commonly causes a multiple-vehicle accident. The drunk driver cannot judge their distance from other vehicles and has slow reflexes and other deficits that cause them to be a danger to others sharing the roadway.
  • Speeding: Accidents can occur when drivers speed because they are unable to slow down quickly enough to avoid collisions.
  • Reckless driving: The reckless driver may cut in and out of lanes, tailgate and perform other maneuvers that endanger other motorists. This type of behavior commonly causes a multiple-vehicle crash.
  • Fatigued driving: In terms of how it affects a person behind the wheel of a car, fatigued driving has been compared to intoxication because the effects are similar.

How a Lawyer Can Help After a Multiple-Vehicle Crash

Because more than one negligent driver may have been involved in a multiple-vehicle crash, it is important to determine which motorists are at fault. By doing so, the injured parties can recover the compensation they deserve. For example, one driver may have been speeding, while another was texting while driving, and a third was inebriated. By determining negligence in all those involved in the collision, fair compensation can be recovered by holding all the at-fault parties responsible.

Investigating an Accident Involving Multiple Vehicles

At our law firm, investigators are dispatched to accident scenes right away to gather evidence to support our client’s compensation claim. Among the areas that are investigated:

  • The investigators survey the scene noting the placement of the vehicles before, during and after the collision by performing accident reconstruction
  • Witnesses are interviewed
  • They obtain any available surveillance videos if the accident was captured on tape.
  • The investigators also review the report filed by the police to look for errors.

Our legal team then takes all the evidence that has been gathered and builds a solid case for our clients.
