Names of the Deceased to Be Released by Shasta County Coroner’s Office

The Shasta County Coroner’s office will release the names of the deceased in the single-vehicle highway accident when the families have been notified. An investigation is underway to determine why the accident occurred. Those with information are asked to contact the officer investigating the Northern Division of the CHP traffic collision unit at (530) 225-0500.

Can I Claim Compensation if I Was a Passenger in a Vehicle That Crashed?

Yes, you can. As a passenger, you have no control over the driver’s actions. If the single-vehicle highway accident was due to the driver’s negligence, you may be entitled to claim compensation. Even if the driver is a friend, you should not hesitate to make a claim if you are injured. Medical expenses can accumulate quickly, and insurance is designed to compensate for injuries or fatalities. As an injured person due to a negligent driver, you can recover medical expenses and lost wages, and obtain compensation for your pain and suffering.

What If My Loved One Died and Was a Passenger in the Vehicle?

When your loved one dies in a crash caused by the driver, the family can place a wrongful death claim to recover compensation. Immediate family is first in line to place a claim, such as the spouse and children. If the deceased had no spouse or children, then the siblings and parents may file.

Contacting an Attorney After a Single-Vehicle Highway Accident

Even if a personal injury or wrongful death claim is not an option, you might still recover damages through your uninsured/underinsured motorist insurance policy. These policies cover you whether you are driving or are a passenger. If you do not have this coverage, you may still utilize a family member’s policy without impacting their future rates.
