Roadway Closed for Investigation of Fatal Solano County Crash

The crash prompted the closure of the highway between Fry and Hay roads for some time, but it has since been reopened. The CHP traffic division continues to investigate the circumstances leading up to the fatal Solano County crash.

Determining Fault in a Traffic Accident

Establishing fault after a highway collision requires identifying the party legally accountable for the injuries and damages. These cases often revolve around the concept of negligence, where a driver is found to have failed to act with reasonable care while driving. To prove negligence, it is necessary to demonstrate that the driver had a duty of care to others, violated that duty, and directly caused the accident and the resulting harm.

Damages That Are Recoverable in a Wrongful Death

When a wrongful death occurs, certain damages can be recovered to compensate the family and loved ones for their loss. These damages are intended to address both the financial and emotional impact caused by the unexpected death. Common types of recoverable damages include:

  • Economic Damages: These cover financial contributions the deceased would have provided, such as lost wages, benefits, and future earnings.
  • Funeral and Burial Costs: Reimbursement for the expenses incurred for the deceased’s funeral services and burial arrangements.
  • Loss of Companionship: Damages are awarded to compensate for the emotional loss and absence of love, guidance, and companionship.
  • Emotional Distress: Compensation for the emotional distress and mental anguish endured by surviving family members.
