On the night of Wednesday, March 15, 2023, the California Highway Patrol reported a fatal crash involving a passenger vehicle and a truck near Treasure Island. The incident occurred shortly after 11:20 p.m. on westbound Interstate 80 just east of Treasure Island, officials said.

CHP traffic officers revealed in a preliminary release that a big rig was involved in a traffic collision with a passenger vehicle. This was the second collision that occurred that hour in the same stretch of westbound I-80. The first accident occurred at approximately 11:10 p.m. involving three cars and resulted in injuries described as minor.
Sadly, the big rig crash resulted in two fatalities, according to officials. Their identities have been withheld due to pending family notification.
