Fatal Truck Crash on Highway 180 in Fresno County
A driver has suffered fatal injuries after a truck crash on Highway 180 in Fresno County on the afternoon of Monday, January 11, 2021. The Fresno truck accident occurred on State Route 180 at Blythe Avenue at approximately 1:00 p.m. A man driving a Volkswagen Jetta on SR-180 was involved in a collision with an oncoming big rig.
Sadly, the impact killed the Volkswagen driver. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers are investigating what caused the fatal incident. The tractor-trailer driver was uninjured in the wreck and stayed at the scene to cooperate with CHP traffic investigators. Fresno County officials have recently identified the decedent as 19-year-old Jose Castellanos Gomez of Coalinga.
Working with an Attorney After a Fatal Big Rig Crash in Fresno County
Among motor vehicle collisions, big rig crashes often cause the most catastrophic injuries and, in some cases, even death. Not only are large commercial trucks three times the size of most passenger vehicles on the road, but most wrecks involving tractor-trailers occur on the highway. What is more challenging for these cases is that insurance companies representing trucking firms often act quickly after a wreck to limit their financial liability for the incident.
If you lost a loved one in a big rig crash in Fresno County, you may have questions that must be answered regarding your loved one’s death and that are unique to wrongful death truck accident lawsuits. How Wrongful Death Damages Help Surviving Family Members
When a loved one is killed in a fatal big rig crash in Fresno County, and a surviving family member brings a wrongful death lawsuit against the at-fault party, that survivor may be entitled to compensation for what California law considers their damages. In a wrongful death case, damages are intended to compensate the family for their loss and, in a way, make them whole again.
Damages are often awarded by the court to a survivor who has lost a close relative through someone else’s wrongful conduct. Commercial truck accidents are often catastrophic, and families are never the same without their loved ones by their side. Though wrongful death damages vary in value from case to case, some examples of what surviving family members may recover if they lost a loved one in a tractor-trailer collision include:
- Medical Expenses
- Funeral and Burial Service Costs
- Lost Future Financial Support
- Loss of Care, Companionship, and Protection
Because our Fresno truck accident lawyers work with surviving family members directly, we come to truly understand the impact the loved one’s wrongful death has had on their families’ lives. When the time comes for demanding compensatory damages, we will have a detailed understanding of the full and fair amount of compensation the family rightfully deserves.
