On Wednesday, December 26, 2018, Sacramento County officials reported the identity of a Vacaville man who received fatal injuries during a car accident on Christmas Eve. The man was identified as 28-year-old Melvin Kwaun Strong. The accident took place in Sacramento in the early morning on December 24, 2018, and officers say that the collision involved five separate vehicles. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials report that they suspect the accident to have been caused by an intoxicated driver who has been arrested on DUI-related charges.

I’d like to express my sincere sympathy to Mr. Strong’s loved ones while they are mourning their tragic loss.

Crash Details

CHP stated that a white BMW had been driving near the intersection of I and 15th streets when officers noticed the driver making erratic maneuvers. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but lost sight of it after the driver made a few sudden turns. Moments after losing sight of the vehicle, CHP discovered a five-vehicle collision at the intersection of I and 18th streets. One of the vehicles involved in the crash was the BMW.

Later investigations revealed that the BMW driver, identified as a 41-year-old Antelope man, had been heading north on 18th Street when he ignored a stop sign and struck the side of an Infiniti sedan that had been traveling west through the intersection. The collision caused the BMW to spin out and crash into a parked vehicle. The parked vehicle was pushed backward, striking two more parked cars.

Response

Emergency responders at the accident scene found Strong with severe injuries. Medics reportedly performed lifesaving procedures on Strong at the site of the crash before having him transported by ambulance to a local trauma center. Tragically, Strong was unable to withstand his injuries and eventually passed away at the hospital.

The driver of the BMW was arrested at the accident site on multiple felony charges including driving under the influence leading to serious injury or death, as well as vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.

Community Support

Strong is survived by a younger brother, his mother, and many close friends and extended family members. A GoFundMe Account has been set up to assist his family with paying for end-of-life expenses and can be found at this page.

Wrongful Death Damages

Burial and funeral costs are often much higher than families expect. However, these aren’t the only costs that people need to worry about after losing a family member. Our loved ones often make major contributions to our lives by bringing income into a household, performing manual labor, and providing emotional support. No amount of money can ever truly replace someone you love, but those who’ve lost somebody in a crash can often hold reckless drivers responsible for these damages. To learn more details about recovering damages after a fatal collision and to get professional advice about your specific case, the best thing you can do is to speak with a trusted Vacaville wrongful death lawyer.
