Fatality Reported in Calaveras County Crash
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) San Andreas area office reported a fatality after a crash in Calaveras County on the morning of Saturday, June 5, 2021. The incident occurred shortly after 7:10 a.m. on State Route 49 and O’Connell Lane in the San Andreas area.
Details on the Fatal Crash Reported in Calaveras County
According to a release by CHP traffic officers, a 48-year-old man from Monrow, Georgia, was behind the wheel of a 2021 Dodge Ram pickup headed northbound on SR-49. At the same time, a woman from Des Moines, Iowa, was driving a 2020 Nissan Altima southbound on Highway 49.
For unknown reasons, the Dodge and Nissan were involved in a head-on collision in the southbound lane. The impact of the collision caused the Dodge to overturn and propelled the Nissan onto the west shoulder of State Route 49.
The Georgia man was transported by ground ambulance to Mark Twain Medical Center in San Andreas for treatment of minor injuries. Sadly, the Iowa woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Additional information on the fatal head-on collision in San Andreas was not immediately available as an investigation is underway by CHP.
What You Should Know About Fatal Car Accidents and Insurance Claims
The loss of a family member is devastating and life-changing, particularly if it was caused by negligence or carelessness. A wrongful death claim may arise when another driver’s negligent actions cause the death of an innocent party in a motor vehicle collision. Surviving family members may bring such cases against insurance companies representing at-fault parties for damages incurred.
In any wrongful death claim, there are various obstacles and challenges that survivors must overcome. Some of which may include at-fault parties and insurance companies disputing liability for the incident. Insurers may go as far as suggesting that a lost close relative was somehow at fault for the accident. These are the last things that surviving family members should deal with in their time of loss and grief.
An attorney experienced in handling wrongful death car accident cases will know the best way to overcome the defense tactics insurance carriers use to dispute or deny claims. With the assistance of a skilled lawyer, you and your family will be able to obtain the justice you all deserve. Types of Compensation in a Wrongful Death Case
While retaining an attorney may be challenging during a trying time like this, a lawyer can help survivors by handling all aspects of their fatal accident case on their behalf. An attorney can assist surviving family members in recovering financial compensation for economic and non-economic damages, such as:
- End of Life Medical Care: A survival action is generally filed on behalf of the family to include any medical bills that were incurred because of the final injury related to the motor vehicle accident.
- Funeral Services: It may be expensive to lay a loved one to rest today. When the loss was caused by someone else’s negligence, that party should be held financially accountable for the costs of funeral and burial services. An experienced attorney can help with that.
- Loss of Companionship: No amount of money can ever undo the pain of losing a loved one or bring them back. However, survivors may be compensated for the affection, care, guidance, protection, and companionship their close relative provided them.
- Lost Future Financial Support: If the decedent was the primary provider of the household, surviving family members may be entitled to the recovery of lost future earnings, benefits, and more.
