Driver Is Killed After Striking a Pole Near Rio Linda High School
A single-vehicle accident in Rio Linda on June 14 caused the death of a Sacramento man. The collision was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) as occurring on Elkhorn Boulevard west of Dry Creek Road, along the side of the Rio Linda High School where the stadium is located. The driver, age 24, was in a BMW 323i sedan at about 9:00 p.m. when his vehicle crashed into a pole.
Speeding Suspected as a Factor in Fatal Single-Vehicle Accident
Officer A. J. McTaggart, a spokesman for the North Sacramento CHP, said the man was declared dead at the accident scene. The spokesman said speed appeared to be involved in the cause of the single-vehicle accident. The name of the deceased man hasn’t been released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office pending notification of the family.
Losing a Loved One in a Single-Vehicle Accident
It is a heart-wrenching experience to lose a loved one suddenly in an accident. The family suffers not only grief but shock and a sense of unreality, thinking that it’s all a mistake and their loved one will walk in the door at any minute. When they face the facts while they make the end-of-life arrangements, their grief is overwhelming. There are ways that others can help them in their time of need:
- Send a card, flowers or phone to express your sympathy.
- Visit if it is permitted. Those who are grieving often need to talk about their loved one, and a sympathetic ear is welcome.
- Sending over either prepared or ordered food is traditional in many places after someone loses a family member.
- Offer to babysit, pick up children from school, or other activities that can help out.
- Remember that grief doesn’t stop after the funeral service. Stay in touch and continue offering your empathy and support.
Causes of a Single-Vehicle Accident
The majority of single-vehicle accidents are due to driver error such as speeding, distracted or drunk driving, and fatigue. However, some are caused by an outside influence such as:
- Mechanical defects: A defect in an automobile such as in the brakes, accelerator, steering, engine or tire can end up causing a single-vehicle accident. It is important following an accident to retain the vehicle so that it can be examined for defective parts by our engineers. If a defect is found to be the cause of an injury or fatal accident, the manufacturer, designer and others in the production line may be held responsible through an auto product liability claim.
- Poor road maintenance: A roadway that has potholes, poor lighting, upheavals in the pavement, and other defects can cause a single-vehicle accident. In these cases, the government entity charged with maintenance may be liable. The statute of limitations against a government entity expires much sooner than most other personal injury claims. Because of this, enlisting the help of an injury attorney can ensure the claim is filed before the deadline.
- Hit-and-run drivers: Drivers that run into another vehicle or force it off the road and then flee the scene of an accident are becoming more and more common. With the help of a lawyer, it can be determined if there was another driver present who caused the single-vehicle accident, and that person can be located and held responsible.
