Wildfire in Winters Nearly Contained, Evacuation Orders Lifted

A fast-moving wildfire burning in Winters, California, is now 90 percent contained, and evacuation orders have been lifted. Cal Fire officials said the Wintu Fire burning in the small Yolo County town bordering Solano County has burned nearly 110 acres.

Evacuation During the Wintu Fire

The wildfire started in the afternoon on Wednesday, June 22, near Campos Lane and Wintu Way, and residents were forced to evacuate. By Thursday morning, all evacuation orders were downgraded to warnings.

When an evacuation order is issued, it is mandatory because there is an immediate threat to the livelihood. When a warning is issued, evacuations are not mandatory but highly encouraged because fire behavior could still threaten nearby homes and businesses.

Status of the Wintu Fire

Fire officials said it was easy for crews to get it under control and knock it down quickly due to the flat terrain in the valley. They said the even surface made it a lot easier to maneuver their vehicles and have their aircraft fly in with retardant and tanker drops.

The grass fire did reach up to a few homes as a combination of winds, and triple-digit temperatures created a dangerous scenario. One trailer and one outbuilding were destroyed in the fire. However, thanks to firefighters’ quick air and ground attacks, no injuries were reported, and no other major buildings were impacted by the fire.

A recent report by First Street Foundation showed Winters is one of the highest fire danger communities in the area, with over 2,500 homes and structures at risk.

Burn Injuries from Fires

While no one was injured in the Wintu Fire, suffering serious burn injuries in fires is not uncommon. Burns can be one of the most painful injuries to endure. Burn victims may suffer from scarring and experience difficulty with mobility around joints.

Not only are burn injuries painful and traumatic, but they also cause life-long complications that can permanently alter your life. Burn victims also often have a long recovery ahead of them. Healing from burn injuries requires extensive medical treatment, potential plastic surgery, and physical therapy.
