I’m Ed Smith, a Folsom auto accident attorney. The City of Folsom is making preparations for winter rainstorms. The Los Angeles Times predicts we will have one of the strongest El Nino winter’s on record.

Prepare now for Winter Weather

City officials are reminding citizens and business owners in Folsom that now is the time to prepare for potentially powerful storms.  Storms they say could cause localized flooding, extended power outages and treacherous driving conditions.

Folsom Fire Department’s Chief Ronald A. Phillips

Chief Phillips explains that powerful and concentrated rains may very well be one of the biggest potential problems. A major concern to his department is that large amounts of rain may begin to fall all at one time. This, he says, could lead to some areas of urban flooding.

We would like to encourage Folsom residents to take the following precautions before El Nino arrives:

  • Clean out your drains, downspouts and rain gutters of all debris.
  • Purchase flood insurance.  If you already have flood insurance be sure you have enough coverage.
  • Put together an emergency kit. Include water, non-perishable food, flashlights, batteries, etc.
  • Have a plan for what to do in the event of a weather related emergency.
  • Secure all patio furniture  and other loose items in your front and backyard before the storm hits.
  • Prepare your property, in advance, with sandbags if you have a history of flooding.

The city has opened sandbag stations at Fire Station 36

Free sandbag materials can be obtained adjacent to Fire Station #36.  The address is: 9700 Oak Avenue Pkwy (in the back of City Hall @ 50 Natoma Street).

Folsom City officials and the Edward A Smith Law Offices remind motorists to use extra caution while driving during stormy winter weather conditions.
