Forbestown Fatality Head-On Collision
I’m Ed Smith, an Oroville car accident lawyer. Shortly after 4:30 p.m on Sunday, January 22, 2017, the California Highway Patrol received a report of a head-on collision involving two vehicles in Forbestown.
What Happened?
Authorities indicated a 52-year-old Oroville man was driving his 1994 Ford Ranger eastbound on Forbestown Road in snowy and dark conditions when he lost control of his vehicle. The driver crossed the double line into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a 2015 Toyota 4-Runner driven by a resident of Oroville. CHP officials believe that speed may have been a factor in this tragic auto accident. An investigation is underway.
Were There Injuries?
When first responders arrived at the scene they found one of the occupants trapped and had to extract the victim from the heavily damaged vehicle. Sadly, another victim, the driver of the 1994 Ford passed away as a result of his injuries. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of his family members. CHP reports did not indicate the severity of injuries sustained to the other involved parties in this head-on collision.
Road Closures
Forbestown Road and Old Forbestown Road were closed for approximately 4 hours following the collision while crews from Cal Fire- Yuba County, Cal Fire-Butte County, Butte County Sheriffs Office, California Highway Patrol, and the Butte County Roads Department conducted their investigation and worked to clear the wreckage from the scene.
We extend our condolences to the family and friends of the man who tragically lost his life in this collision.
