Ford Driver Seat Back Frame Recall
I’m Ed Smith, a Modesto personal injury attorney. The American automaker, Ford, has released a recall for approximately 2,204 of their 2017 year vehicles. The reason for the prompt recall is due to a defect in the back frame of the driver’s seat which may lead an occupant to an increased risk of injury in a vehicular accident.
Recall Information
Ford Motor Company (FMC) has issued a recall for certain 2017 model vehicles manufactured with the manual driver’s seat back recliner mechanism. In the incident of an automobile accident, the seat back frame may not fully restrain the occupant due to the lack of welds.
FMVSS Standards Not Met by These Vehicles
These vehicles have failed to meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) #202a for “Head Restraints” and #207 for “Seating Systems”.
FMVSS #202a is the standard for head restraints. A head restraint is a device that is attached to the top of each seat in a motor vehicle to limit the movement of an occupant’s head in the event of an accident. The goal of this standard is to increase the effectiveness of head restraints to reduce the risk of cervical vertebrae or whiplash injuries.
FMVSS #207 is the standard for seating systems of motor vehicles. This standard includes the requirements for attachment assemblies and installation of seats in cars to minimize the risk of failure due to the impact of forces on the seat during an accident.
Which Vehicles?
The following vehicles are included in the driver seat back frame recall:
- 2017: Ford Explorer, F-150, F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550
Recall Remedy
Ford will notify owners to take their vehicles to their local dealers. Dealers will schedule vehicle inspections. Upon inspection, the seat back frame may be replaced by dealers at no charge. The start date of the recall has been set to June 5th, 2017. Vehicle owners may contact the Ford customer service line at (866) 436-7332 for more information.
