Ford Recall Announced for 2018 Expedition and Pickup Models
I’m Ed Smith, a Sacramento wrongful death lawyer. Ford Motor Company has announced a significant recall on their 2018 Expeditions and some pickups because of a potential problem with the gear shift cable that could cause vehicles to roll away. The Ford recall is expected to affect about 350,000 vehicles. One accident was reported to Ford due to this problem, and that accident resulted in an injury. In the worst case scenario, an accident caused by a faulty transmission could lead to the death of the vehicle’s occupants or someone standing outside the truck.
Ford Recall Details
This recall covers some of the Expedition SUVs and F-150 pickups manufactured by Ford that are equipped with automated 10-speed transmissions. Some of the 2018 F-650s and F-750s with six-speed transmissions are also affected. The recalled F-150s were built between January 5, 2017, and February 16, 2018, at the assembly plant in Dearborn, Michigan. They are also being recalled from the assembly plant in Kansas City where they were built from January 25, 2017, through February 16, 2018. The recalled Ford Expeditions were constructed at the truck plant in Kentucky between April 3, 2017, and January 30, 2018. The F-650s and F-750s were from the assembly plant in Ohio and were built between April 25, 2017, and March 9, 2018.
Problems With the Vehicles
Ford reported that the cable for the gear shift in the automatic transmission in these vehicles has a potential problem with the locking clip because it might not be seated correctly. Drivers in vehicles with this problem could potentially get out of their vehicles thinking that the vehicle is in the parked position, but the vehicle might not be in that gear. This could cause the vehicle to roll, causing an accident.
Second Recall for Transmission Problems
This is not the first recall for problems with Ford transmissions. The other recall was for fewer than 200 vehicles, which included Expeditions, 2018 Lincoln Navigators, Mustangs and some F-150 pickups. The other recall was because of a roll pin that was missing in these vehicles, and that could prevent the vehicle from being placed in the park position.
2016 Fiat Recall
A similar recall was issued by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in 2016 for over 800,000 of their vehicles. This recall affected the transmission’s indicator for shifter position because it did not necessarily reflect the actual gear the car was in.
Wrongful Death Due to Manufacturer Defect
Wrongful deaths occur when a loved one dies due to the negligent actions of another person or entity. While some may be due to different types of accidents, they can also occur due to manufacturer negligence.
If a family loses a loved one because of manufacturer negligence, they may place a wrongful death claim to ask for financial compensation for their loss. Contacting a personal injury lawyer with experience in both products liability claims and wrongful death is a good start to recovering damages to help the family after their loss.
