Someone else in another vehicle stopped and was directing traffic. The disabled vehicle was stopped on a blind corner. It was determined that only minor injuries had occurred as a result of the crash. An investigation by CHP traffic officials will determine how the collision occurred.
Frequency of Accidents Involving Rental Trucks
Rental trucks are becoming increasingly popular and widely used for various tasks, such as moving homes or transporting goods. While rental trucks may provide an efficient means of transportation, the risks associated with operating these vehicles should not be overlooked. According to recent studies, there is an alarming trend in the rate of accidents involving rental trucks.
Rental Truck Accidents Carry a High Fatality Rate
Of all motor vehicle accidents, those involving rental trucks account for nearly one-fifth of all fatal crashes. This is double the rate of other types of motor vehicles, such as privately owned cars and trucks, which only account for 10 percent of fatalities. The majority of these accidents are caused by inexperienced drivers who are not familiar with the handling of larger vehicles or maneuvering in tight spaces.
Lack of Safety Features and Inspections
In addition, rental trucks often lack the safety features to protect drivers and other motorists on the road. This includes airbags, anti-lock brakes, and other advanced technologies. Furthermore, a study by the U.S. Department of Transportation revealed that many rental companies do not properly inspect their vehicles before renting them out, which may further contribute to their increased accident rate.
Driver Negligence Often Contributes to Rental Truck Accidents
Rental truck collisions can result in extensive damage and injury, and it is important to know the various common causes. As with any motor vehicle accident, driver negligence or distraction is often to blame for rental truck accidents. This includes failing to obey speed limits, not signaling when turning, running a red light or stop sign, aggressive driving, and other forms of driver error.
Poor Road Conditions Can Lead to an Accident
In addition to driver negligence, hazardous road conditions can lead to accidents involving rental trucks. Poorly maintained roads, inadequate signage, overhanging shrubbery and poor lighting are all examples of hazardous road conditions that can contribute to an accident.
Although a claim may be placed against the government entity in charge of road maintenance, the statute of limitations to file is six months. Obtaining assistance from an injury lawyer to meet deadlines can be helpful. The court will refuse the case if the paperwork is not filed on time.
