Fort Bragg Woman Arrested for Hit-and-Run

California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that a Fort Bragg woman suspected of driving away from a fatal accident turned herself in on Monday, December 2, 2019. According to authorities, the 41-year-old woman was booked into the Mendocino County Jail just after 4:00 p.m. and faces felony hit-and-run charges. The woman reportedly turned herself in about a week after authorities issued warrants for her arrest.

Accident Details

The accident took place on July 18, 2019, on Highway 1 near the village of Mendocino at about 10:50 p.m. 21-year-old Calum Pulido had been riding a skateboard westbound on Little Lake Road and was crossing Highway 1 when he was struck by a 2006 Toyota Tundra. The vehicle quickly drove away from the scene. Tragically, Pulido passed away from his injuries.

Investigation and Arrests

CHP officers stated that they conducted a “vigorous and thorough investigation” in order to locate the missing driver and vehicle. Eventually, officers discovered the Toyota in a local auto shop. Officers reported that they discovered that the drivers’ boyfriend had been attempting to repair the vehicle in order to obscure evidence. On November 27, police issued warrants for both the driver and her boyfriend. The same day, the boyfriend was arrested and booked into jail on charges of concealment and destruction of evidence. A week later, the driver turned herself into local authorities.

Wrongful Death Damages

The effects of a wrongful death accident can be devastating for families. The emotional impact of losing a person in your life can be overwhelming, and it can be especially difficult to process your grief in the event of a sudden accident. Many people experience a complex set of emotions, including fear, anger, confusion, sadness, and more. While the grieving process looks different from person to person, it’s always important to allow yourself the time and space that you and your loved ones need to grieve after such a tragic event. Those having an especially difficult time often find help by seeking out local support groups or consulting a grief counselor.

While the grieving process can be intense, families are also faced with serious financial issues after fatal accidents. In many cases, families are left with medical bills incurred before their loved one passed away. In others, the sudden loss of a member of your household can mean no longer having access to an important source of income or services. Altogether, these concerns often leave people wondering how they will be able to move forward with their lives.

Contacting an Attorney

These concerns are very serious, and families deserve financial stability during difficult times. That’s why it’s important to get in touch with a wrongful death lawyer and find out about your options for claiming compensation for your damages. In wrongful death cases, families can often claim payments for both financial and personal losses. To learn more about wrongful death damages, take a look at this short video:
