Fortuna Tow Truck Driver Seriously Injured in Accident

On Tuesday, October 6, 2020, a 59-year-old Fortuna tow truck driver suffered major injuries during an auto accident. The crash occurred outside of the city on a local highway and only involved one vehicle. Additionally, no other individuals were in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Updates on the injured man’s medical condition remain unavailable, and California Highway Patrol (CHP) has reported that they are still investigating what could have caused the crash.

Collision Information

CHP traffic reports indicate that the accident happened at about 1:30 on Highway 36 near mile marker 11.2 past Riverside Park Drive. Police stated that preliminary investigations suggest that a 2016 Dodge Ram tow truck was driving eastbound on the highway prior to the accident.

For unknown reasons, the tow truck drifted to the left, crossing over the double-yellow line median and eventually driving onto the dirt shoulder on the northern side of the highway. Shortly after driving onto the shoulder, the tow truck crashed directly into a large tree. Photos of the accident scene show heavy damage to the front end of the truck.

Response

Emergency responders arriving at the scene found that the driver was severely injured. He was removed from the vehicle and placed on an ambulance that transported him to the St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka. Specific information about the nature of his injuries was not reported.

Investigation

Following the crash, police conducted an investigation of the accident site, but have not yet stated what could have caused the crash. However, investigators did report that they do not believe driving under the influence played a role. As the investigation continues, the Humboldt area CHP office has asked anybody with information about the collision to report what they know. Callers should dial the non-emergency phone number, (707) 822-5981.

Collisions like this one may only involve a single vehicle but can be caused by numerous factors. Importantly, many common dangerous car accident factors aren’t things that drivers are able to control. Examples of non-driver accident factors include driving a vehicle with poorly built parts or using hazardous roads.

Recovering From An Accident Injury

Truck accidents can involve tons of force, leaving occupants seriously vulnerable. Even though most vehicles are designed to absorb front-end impacts, crashes like this one frequently leave people with injuries that majorly impact their lives. Recovering from such an injury can be a hard process, and many crash survivors don’t recover for months or even years.

Furthermore, injury recovery can be expensive. Not only do survivors need to pay for medical care, but they also often suffer income loss due to their injuries. Fortunately, it’s possible to seek payment for these losses by working with an attorney and filing a personal injury claim. The best way to learn what payments may be available to you for your case is to contact an experienced Fortuna personal injury lawyer.
